What is RSS?

RSS feeds are an easy way to browse the latest content from your favourite websites, by syndicating it straight to your desktop. RSS allows you to see when new content has been added to the CLIVAR website.

RSS are growing rapidly in popularity since you can get the latest information and articles in one place without having to remember to visit the site every day. It takes the hassle out of staying up-to-date, by showing you the very latest information that you are interested in.

How to receive RSS feeds

To use RSS and receive feeds, you need to download a program called an RSS reader. There is a range of different RSS readers available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different RSS readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer. Some examples are:

For PC:
Newz Crawler
FeedDemon
Awasu
Pluck RSS Reader

For Mac:
Vienna
Newsfire
NetNewsWire

Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, automatically check for RSS feeds for you when you visit a website, and display an icon when they find one. This can make subscribing to RSS feeds much easier. For more details on these, please check their websites.

Once you've installed your chosen RSS reader, choose a feed by right-clicking on the link, then copy and paste it into the reader. Alternatively, you can sign up to a web-based RSS service. Just click on the relevant button to add the feed to your MyYahoo or Google homepage.
