The African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA) Observation sites. AMMA is an international project to improve our knowledge and understanding of the West African Monsoon (WAM) and its variability. AMMA is motivated by an interest in fundamental scientific issues and by the societal need for improved prediction of the West African Monsoon and its impacts on West African nations. The panel are also involved with projects such as SAGRADEX in Southern Africa and East African initiatives.

Special Issue: African Climate and Applications http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/122355158/issue

This special issue of the International Journal of Climatology mainly arose from a Young African Scientist's Day that was organised by the CLIVAR Variability in the African Climate System (VACS) panel as part of the 28th session of the Joint Scientific Committee of the World Climate Research Programme held during 26-30 March 2007 in Zanzibar, East Africa.

3rd International  AMMA Conference - 20-24 July 2009, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

AMMA – the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analyses - will hold its 3rd International Conference next July.
This conference will be an opportunity to review the progress made in our understanding of the West African monsoon system and to help guide the programme's future.
The Scientific Committee invites researchers working on West African monsoon processes, predictability and climate change issues as well as society-environment-climate interactions to submit abstracts for oral presentations and posters.
Details of the conference organisation are given in the flyer which can be downloaded from the above link.
Abstracts should be submitted online by 12th March 2009.
